A man who was released from prison on December 19 and failed to notify police of his address in line with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrates' Court.
Paul Farren (35) of River Court Apartments in Derry appeared charged with breaching his SOPO within the specified time period.
The court was told that the defendant was refusing to leave his cell to appear in court and the case was dealt with in his absence.
A police officer told the court that he believed Farren would not adhere to any bail conditions as he had numerous breaches of suspended sentences and the like.
A defence solicitor told the court said that the defendant had many issues one of them being that he is illiterate and therefore couldn't read the notice served on him upon release.
She said that Farren had 'no intention to deceive anyone' and police were aware of his address.
Bail was refused and Farren was remanded in custody to appear again on January 8.
