Derry man charged with driving at 108mph in 70mph zone

District Judge Oonagh Mullan said a young man was driving at 'a shocking speed'

Suspended sentence for Donegal man at Derry Magistrate's Court

Derry Magistrates' Court

A judge at Derry Magistrates' Court has said a young man was driving at 'a shocking speed'.
District Judge Oonagh Mullan's comments came in the case of Regan McCaul (23) of Rafferty Close in Derry who appeared charged with driving at 108mph in a 70mph zone on October 16 this year.
A defence barrister Stephen Chapman told the court that the defendant depended on his licence for employment as did several others.
He said he had a letter from the defendant's employer which he wished to present to the court but would not be able to do that until January.
Judge Mullan said that 'obviously the speed was excessive' and it was shocking that such a young driver should be travelling at that speed.
The case was adjourned until January 12.
