The Peace Bridge
Derry City and Strabane District Council has received an update on plans to repair the lighting at Derry's Peace Bridge.
During December’s Environment and Regeneration Committee meeting, SDLP councillor Rory Farrell noted that council had recently agreed to allocate funding to fix the “decorative lighting” at the bridge.
Councillor Farrell asked council Officers: “ I walk across it twice a day, and haven't noticed it, so are there plans in place for that to be delivered and, if so, could we get timescales?”
Director of Environment and Regeneration, Karen Phillips, said council was in the process of procurement for the lighting project, with plans to return a report at a future Committee meeting around “when exactly it’s going to happen”.
“We initially had looked at it as two separate contracts because there's two types of lighting on the Peace Bridge,” Ms Phillips clarified. “However we felt then on reflection, having looked into it in more detail, it would be more cost effective to do it as one.
“So that's in the process of being procured at the minute and we'll update members as soon as we can in terms of the progress in the timeline.”
