Suspended sentence for Donegal man at Derry Magistrate's Court

Derry Magistrate's Court

A man who was recently sentenced to a period of imprisonment by Derry Crown Court for causing grievous bodily injury has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with assault.

Martin Sheridan (31) of Spencer Road in Derry was charged with, on August 13 last year, assaulting a man after the injured party reported that he had been pushed from behind while making his way home.

Sheridan was said to have been shouting at the injured party for allegedly injuring his partner.

He was identified via CCTV and later found on John Street.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that the common denominator with Sheridan's previous convictions has been alcohol but told the court that he is in a 'much better place' now.

He was sentenced to two months in custody and a restraining order was put in place for two years.
