A man from Cavan in the Republic has been fined and disqualified after being detected drink driving at a PSNI checkpoint.

Edgar Sondors (52) with an address at Cornakill, Mullagh in Cavan appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court with the assistance of a Russian interpreter charged with driving with excess alcohol on December 18.

The court was told at 2.25am there was a checkpoint in Moneymore and Sondors failed a preliminary breath test.

An evidential breath test revealed a reading of 48mgs with the legal limit being 35mgs.
