Derry Magistrates' Court

A man who ran away from police while being arrested has been fined at Derry Magistrates' Court.

Owen Maughan (29) of Westland Street in Derry admitted one charge of resisting police on November 11 last year.

The court was told that at 7am on that date police were called to an incident at a B&B on the Northland Road.

They arrested Maughan and as they were leading him to a vehicle he broke free and can away scaling several walls.

However, he was detained and charged with resisting police.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said there had been nothing more physical than him running away.

He said that the defendant had received a suspended sentence a matter of days before this incident but for offences of a different nature.

Maughan was fined £250.
