Man with 'an atrocious driving record' refused to co-operate with police

Warren Beatty (35) of Bellaghy Road in Ballymena admitted the offence

Man (39) charged with a series of offences at Derry court

A man with 'an atrocious driving record' has been fined for obstructing police by not giving details of who was driving a vehicle.

Warren Beatty (35) of Bellaghy Road in Ballymena admitted the offence that occurred on July 26 last tear.

The court heard that police observed a suspicious vehicle at Caw Close and stopped it.

As police approached the vehicle made off at speed going through a red light.

Some time later the vehicle was observed at a supermarket on the Buncrana Road but it was being driven by a female while the earlier driver had been a male.

Beatty was the partner of the female driver and he denied being the driver but refused to say who was driving.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said his client had demonstrated 'a misguided sense of loyalty' and wouldn't tell police who was driving.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that Beatty refused to co-operate with police in this case.

He fined him £500.
