Derry woman assaulted mother with 'walking frame and a lamp'

Kelly Anne O'Kane (36) of Holly Lane in Derry was charged with attempting to commit grievous bodily harm with intent on her mother
A woman who has 'a fractious relationship' with her mother has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with assaulting her with a walking frame and a lamp.
Kelly Anne O'Kane (36) of Holly Lane in Derry was charged with attempting to commit grievous bodily harm with intent on her mother on October 19.
A police officer connected the accused to the charge and opposed bail.
The court heard that police were called on a 999 call and the alleged victim said her daughter had assaulted her with a walking frame and a lamp.
She said that there had been an argument and her daughter had accused her of pointing her finger at her.
The woman said that the defendant had struck her with the walking frame and the lamp and then left.
The court heard that blood was found on the frame and the lamp and the woman required two staples in hospital.
Bail was opposed due to the risk of re-offending and interference with witnesses.
The court heard that the defendant had 62 previous convictions and showed 'a propensity for violence'.
The officer said that this was a 'vicious attack using weapons' and police believed if granted bail O'Kane could return to her mother's address.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that this was 'a very distressing incident for the mother.'
He said that the defendant had a social worker and could be monitored and asked for bail with conditions.
District Judge Barney McElholm released O'Kane on bail on condition she observed a curfew, wore a tag, have no contact with her mother and did not enter the Rosemount area.
She will appear again on November 14.
