A man will be sentenced on August 16 on a charge of fraud by false representation in that he claimed to have cancer and a GoFundMe page was set up for him.

Stephen Patrick Doherty (28) of Lisnafin Park in Strabane admitted one charge of fraud by false representation in that he told a woman he had cancer and she set up a GoFundMe page for him which he could benefit.

The charge occurred on dates between January 7 2022 and June 20 2023.

A defence solicitor John McManus said his client was admitting the charge and added that it was 'the type of case that needs a pre-sentence report.'

The prosecution agreed that a report would be required and the case was adjourned until August 16 for a report to be prepared.

The defendant is currently on bail.
