Man (34) charged with non-fatal strangulation offence in Derry released on bail

Man returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on 28 charges

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with non-fatal strangulation.

Daniel Maguire (34) of no fixed abode appeared charged with several counts of a domestic nature.

Maguire was charged with one count of non fatal strangulation against a female on September 9 this year.

He was also charged with assaulting the same female on the same date.

Maguire was further charged with criminal damage to windows and an oven belonging to the same woman on the same date.

Finally the defendant was charged with possessing cannabis on September 9.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that a full file would be required and sought an adjournment until November 1.

The defendant was released on bail to appear again on that date.
