Derry Court: Man (28) fined after cannabis found in car

Man returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on 28 charges

After police stopped a car that had pulled out in front of a patrol car they noticed a strong smell of cannabis Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.

Peter Fox (38) of Shepherd's Glen in Derry admitted possessing cannabis on March 26 2020.

The court heard that police noticed a car that pulled out in front of one of their patrol cars. 

They pulled the car over and noticed a strong smell of cannabis and carried out a search. 

A substance was found in the vehicle and subsequent tests revealed it contained cannabis resin. 

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client believed the substance was legal but 'cannabis is cannabis'.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that Fox had a previous record for similar offences. 

He fined him £500.
