The owner of a Derry hotel which was due hold a PSNI recruitment event this weekend has cancelled the event.

The decision by Garvan O’Doherty, one of the city's best known businessmen, follows the discovery of a bomb in the grounds of the Waterfoot Hotel on Friday last.

The Waterside venue was due to host the police event on Saturday last but the PSNI called it off due to a planned protest by republicans and a wedding being held at the same time.

The event was rescheduled to take place this Saturday.

However, .Mr O’Doherty has now cancelled the event saying the placing of the bomb in the hotel grounds was an attack on his staff, customers and police and he would not engage in anything that would put the lives of people in danger.

The Everglades Hotel in Derry was damaged after it hosted a similar event last year.
