To mark World Cancer Day 2026 (February 4) , AnnMarie Wilson and Marietta Connor from the Western Trust Breast Screening Unit attended a “Living Positively” event held by Hands That Talk to promote early breast cancer detection to Deaf Service Users.
The workshop was one of many engagement events held by Dungiven-based ‘Hands That Talk’ as part of their weekly “Living positively project” offering information on health and well-being as well as opportunities to socialise and learn new skills, all followed by a hot meal.
This workshop aimed to reduce the barriers encountered by Deaf service users accessing breast services with the aim of improving outcomes. Macmillan Cancer support is also working to improve cancer care for Deaf people.
