Mid Ulster District Commander pays tribute to staff as levels of crime have been reduced

2025 was another really busy year for Mid Ulster.

Mid Ulster District Commander Superintendent Peter Stevenson has said crime locally has been reduced this year in the district.

Issuing his Christmas message, Superintendent Stevenson said: "I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in our District a safe and peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year for 2026.

"Whilst 2025 was another really busy year for us in Mid Ulster, I am pleased that we have been able to reduce overall levels of crime locally*, with particular reductions in burglary and theft offences, as well as in violent crime.

"Of course, we aren't complacent and we know there is still work to do however I am confident that by working together as a community we will continue to make a real difference and tackle more of the issues that matter most to local people.

"Policing is a 24/7, 365 day a year operation and the officers and staff in Mid Ulster are among the most dedicated and committed I have ever had the privilege of working alongside. Despite challenges presented by financial constraints, reducing workforce numbers, broader societal issues, and continuing physical attacks, our officers continue to respond to calls for from our community, helping people and preventing harm, detecting and preventing crime.

"Behind every call is someone who needs our help, sometimes at the very worst moment of their lives, and most often we are the first to respond and to offer the help and support they need. We will continue to do this every single day - and night - to keep our community safe.

"Finally, I would again like to wish everyone in Mid Ulster a very happy Christmas. Please look after your friends and families and help ensure 2026 is a safe and peaceful New Year for us all."
