'This anniversary of Bloody Sunday will take place under the shadow of Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip and its continued murderous illegal occupation of the West' - Tony Doherty.

The Bloody Sunday Trust's Bloody Sunday Anniversary 2024 programme of events is being launched in the Museum of Free Derry.

The launch will take place on Friday (December 8) at 12 noon.

Announce the programme of events for the 2024 commemoration, the Trust said that a series of events including exhibitions, discussions and music nights would take place in January 2024 to mark the anniversary.

Chairperson of the Bloody Sunday Trust, Mr Tony Doherty, encouraged the people of Derry and further afield to take part in the upcoming programme.

Mr Doherty, whose father Patrick was murdered on Bloody Sunday, said: "The Bloody Sunday Trust, in partnership with a range of organisations and individuals in Derry and beyond, have compiled a broad programme that will take place in January 2024.

"This anniversary of Bloody Sunday will take place under the shadow of Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip and its continued murderous illegal occupation of the West Bank. Much of this year’s programme of events will reflect on what is happening in Palestine and the Bloody Sunday Trust is honoured to dedicate the 2024 anniversary of Bloody Sunday to the men, women and children of Palestine.

"Events with a Palestinian support theme will include the lighting of the Bloody Sunday monument in Palestinian colours on the evening of 25 January followed by a music night in support of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society in the Museum of Free Derry, with the Henry Girls, Jeanette Hutton and Sianna NiLaithbheartaigh.

"On Friday 26 January, Omar Bharghouti, founding committee member of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel & co-founder of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, will deliver the annual Bloody Sunday lecture in Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin at 8.00pm.

"On Saturday 27 January there will be a panel discussion in Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin, with national human rights organisations discussing their work in Palestine and offering practical tools for action to a Derry audience.

"Other events during the commemoration will include an art display by Siddharta Joag, and a craft project on political borders with Monica Lozano. The Pat Finucane Centre will host an event on British Legal Impunity after the passing of the hated Legacy Act, and on Sunday 28th there will be a music night in aid of the commemoration in the Brass Neck Bar, featuring Gary Óg, Kelly’s Men and Luke McLaughlin.

"The annual memorial mass will take place in St Mary’s, Creggan, on Friday, January 26, with the memorial service on Sunday 28 January at the Bloody Sunday monument and the minute’s silence on Tuesday, January 30, at 4.00pm, also at the monument."
