Derry Magistrate's Court

A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrates Court for the harassment of his former partner.

Michael Cairns, (33) of Bracken Park in Derry, was reported to police by his former partner on March 29 for a campaign of harassment against her.

The victim had moved across the border to her mother's address when Cairns persistently contacted her.

The court also heard how the victim's Facebook business page had received a review alleging that she videoed customers and had taken drugs, while she was also bombarded by messages on WhatsApp.

Cairns has previously been charged with breaching restraining orders against another former partner.

A defence Solicitor told how Cairns has a history of severe mental health issues that he has received treatment for.

He was given a three month suspended sentence for 12 months and a one year restraining order.
