'Potholes all over the city are a serious problem' - Cllr Shaun Harkin.
A protest at the notorious Northland Road pothole has been planned for Monday (February 20). The protest will take place at 3.00pm.
The enormous pothole is being ignored by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) according to Derry City and Strabane District councillor, Shaun Harkin (People Before Profit).
Cllr Harkin said potholes all over the city were a serious problem.
He added: "I've spoken to residents in the Glen about this crater on the Northland Road near the entrance to Glenside Road. I witnessed its impact on traffic from across the city.
"In addition to reporting it, I've spoken directly to DfI about getting it fixed - but got no commitment it would be done any time soon.
"Last month there was double the number of potholes reported across the North from the previous year. DfI officials say budget cuts means they're only doing 'highest priority defects'. This isn't good enough.
"I've notified DfI there will be a protest at this pothole 3pm on Monday, calling on them to fix it immediately and to step-up fixing them across the city.
"I would encourage residents and road users anywhere to do the same in order to put a spotlight on the state of our roads. We can't allow the city to fall apart. We deserve decent infrastructure. Let's start sending the message enough is enough."
