A comic featuring what Derry would be like in the wake of a nuclear explosion will be launched in the city this weekend.
Doire 2030 will be launched on Saturday at 2pm at the Angry Cherry store at Foyle Street.
Conceived by NNComics, the story is written by Niall Cavanagh with the artwork drawn by Nathan Donnell.
The comic centers around Derry in the year 2030 after the city has been destroyed by a nuclear explosion.
The survivors have been held captive by ‘impossibly strong giant robots’ while the remaining people left in the city have also found themselves granted magical powers.
The comic will feature three main characters and follow them on their quest to bring hope back to a city that has long since given up.
Niall Cavanagh said the comic had already received a good response.
“People have been very excited by the story and the art style and we are hoping for a big crowd on Saturday to kick things off.”
He spoke about where they get their inspiration from and their plans for the project going forward.
“We just want people to read and enjoy the comic as much as we did making it.
“I think it’s the characters that appeal to people most in a project like this.
“If you can find an engaging character you like it will encourage you to do right by them and make sure that they are enjoyable for readers too.”
There are plans in place to ensure that the launch on Saturday will have something to interest everyone.
“Nathan will be drawing people as mutant superheroes, people will be dressing up as characters from the comic and badges will be given out along with the comics.
“We will also be giving out free cupcakes. Hopefully amongst all that we will find the time to sell a few copies of our comic!”
