Newbridge are looking forward to a first Ulster semi-final in 55 years and joint-manager Gary Hetherington feels belief is a key word.

The O’Leary’s were winners over Tempo back in 1970 before losing the decider to Bryansford.

They lost in the first round against Coalisland in 1989 and last year it was Clann Éireann.

Scotstown are the latest hurdle after they saw off Naomh Conaill on Sunday in Clones.

“For this club to be in an Ulster Club semi-final is massive no matter who we are playing,” Hetherington said after Newbridge saw off Madden.

“Yes, it is Scotstown, but we have to go in with the belief and the attitude that we are going to win the game and get to the final.

“If we go in with that and we play well, God knows where it will take us.”

Despite conceding an early score Newbridge managed to stay in control for long periods of the first-half but two Conor Grimley two-pointers kept eh Armagh champions in touch.

Newbridge needed an Oisin Doherty free to lead the break,0-8 to 0-7, before pulling away.

“The message was simple,” Hetherington said of half-time.

“We thought we were playing well.

“They were maybe dominating a wee bit more than we'd like around midfield but we definitely thought we were playing well enough - we just needed more scores on the scoreboard.

“We had 15 attacks and they only had eight.

“So, we knew we were dominant and we knew if that continued, the forwards that we have, then the chances would come our way and hopefully we would take them.”
