Over the past number of months Seán Dolans have been preparing for the trip of a lifetime for their young people - and this week has seen that become a reality.
A spokesperson for the club describes how the trip come about: “In July 2023, we were twinned with the Catalonian team for the GAA World Games that were hosted here in Derry and since then the relationship between the two clubs has been growing.
“On Wednesday 23rd October, 26 young people from Seán Dolans, and 6 mentors, travelled to Sitges in Catalonia to participate in a tournament of Gaelic games as well as experience the Celtic Connexions Festival.
“The youth of Seán Dolans are an absolute credit to the club, and those involved have undertaken to raise the funds needed for the trip and in doing so have learned new skills such as running a social enterprise, organising events, running raffles and draws, negotiating with businesses to obtain donations among other skills and they have exceeded our expectations in how well they have done.
“On behalf of the club we want to extend our thanks to all those who helped to fundraise - club members, their families, the wider community and also local businesses who have supported us.

“This was a really exciting opportunity for our young people to help promote Gaelic Games and Irish Culture on an international scale, and also to get to experience the local culture in Catalonia.
“As a club, we are excited to have this opportunity and wish all the young people as well as the mentors who are going with them, all the best for the trip and we can’t wait to hear all about their experiences when they come back!”
