U16 Gabriel Gormley has been selected for the U15 Basketball Ireland (Ulster) Academy.
In just his second season playing competitive basketball our U16 player Gabriel Gormley has been doing the club proud at regional level. Last year Gabriel was selected for the U14 Basketball Ireland (Ulster) Academy and he repeated that feat this season, with his selection for the U15 equivalent.
Gabriel is currently training with NI Basketball U16 as they prepare for a series of internationals away to Wales during mid-term. Having made his NI debut in the corresponding home fixture earlier in the season, everyone at the club wishes Gabriel every success and fingers crossed for the upcoming selection news.
A talented all-rounder, Gabriel also turns out for the Derry Gaa U15 Development squad - following in the footsteps of Kieran Donaghy or Michael Jordan maybe - as the great Koby Bryant said:-
“Playing multiple sports is really important. One of the things Phil (Jackson) used to say is you always look for players who grew up playing multiple sports – because of their footwork, and their understanding of concepts is broader.”
Here Come The Girls!
America is the home of basketball and in February they celebrate Girls and Women in Sport month. Inspired by our Senior Ladies and the brilliant 'SHE GOT GAME' initiative from Basketball Ireland. Magherafelt Titans are running a FREE month of Titans Junior Ladies basketball. This is open to all Secondary and Primary schools in the local area for P4, P5, P6, P7, Y8 and Y9 girls.
Registration is required at: https://www.klubfunder .com/Clubs/Magherafelt_ Titans/EventRegistration #EventRegistration Options.
Sessions will take place in St. PiusX, Friday nights 6-7pm. (2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd) All 4 sessions are free, but for safeguarding reasons places are limited to 40.
This 4 week session has been kindly sponsored by Martin McErlean (Joinery) and family in honour of their loving wife and mother, Siobhán who sadly passed away in 2022. Growing up in Dublin, Siobhán’s first love was basketball and when she settled in the local area she was an active participant and advocate for basketball, running and sport for all. We are delighted to have Siobhan’s name associated with this initiative.
Fundraising Initiatives
Support the Club - Basketball Ireland Club Draw - only €10 per ticket. This is a brilliant initiative by Basketball Ireland for fundraising. Prizes include: trip to Boston USA; Family holiday to Disneyland Paris; Italian Grand Prix 2024; Apple Product Suite; Samsung TV Entertainment Systeml plus many more.
75% of the funds go to the club - so if everyone involved with the club is able to purchase 1 ticket per family this could raise £1000+ for the club.
Go to ireland.basketball/clubdraw, Search for MAGHERAFELT TITANS. Register and buy your ticket for €10 or purchase 5 for €45
