Templemore Sports Complex
Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy has welcomed ongoing progress on the development of the new Templemore Sports Complex in Derry.
December’s Governance and Strategic Planning Committee were presented with a six-month progress report on council’s Strategic Planning and Support Units Delivery Plan, which included an update on development of a new £90 million Templemore Sports Complex.
Members were informed that plans for development at Templemore were now 30 percent complete, and tenders have now been issued for the appointment of a new design team.
In response, Councillor Duffy said: “For Templemore there is a sense out there, in the public domain, that we need to be keeping the pressure on in relation to that.
“But to see that the tender has been issued for the appointment of a design team is hugely significant in taking forward that project.
“When I’m out and about people do talk to me about Templemore because it is something that in terms of hearts and minds of people here in this city, they really want to see that developed, so it’s fantastic to see that progress being made.
“Do we have any dates or milestones in relation to when we might know about who has been appointed or what the next steps will be after that?” Councillor Duffy asked. “Because that is something that I particularly would be really interested to hear.”
Chief Executive, John Kelpie, said plans for Templemore had “advanced considerably, even since this report was published”.
He said members will have recently received “detailed papers” on the plans, and said time-frames will be discussed at upcoming Capital and City Deal Working Groups.
