The close-knit community of Claudy has been stunned by the sudden death of Conall Kerrigan.

The body of the 25-year-old was found around 10.20pm last night in the Bank Place area (pictured) of Derry city centre, 20 hours after he was last seen leaving the Metro Bar.

Police are treating his death as “unexplained” and have appealed to anyone who may have seen Conall around 2.00am yesterday morning to come forward.

A popular member of the John Mitchells GAA Club Conall, who was best man at his brother’s wedding just three weeks ago, returned home from England a number of months of ago to set up his own plumbing business.

He had been enjoying a night out in Derry with team mates when he went missing.

As a mark of respect, the club has cancelled all training and football matches for the rest of the week.

In a statement the club said they learned of Conall’s death with a “very heavy heart.”

The statement added: “Conall was a huge character, full of craic and a good friend to his peers.

“His passing hurts us all. There are just no words that will make sense of this and everybody is struggling to come to terms with it.

“Our prayers and love go out to Conall, his immediate and wider families, and to all of his friends.”

The statement added: “Ar dheas Dé go raibh a anam. Codladh sámh a Chonall.”

Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Fleming on Derry and Strabane District Council also expressed his condolences to the Kerrigan family.

He said: “The entire community are in shock on hearing the terrible sad news.

“I wish to extend my sympathy and condolences to his family and friends at this time.”
