Fifteen primary school teams from across the city took part in the Derry Primary Schools' annual Derry Cup Tournament at Foyle College recently.
The football was competitive throughout the day, but the children played the game in the right spirit and made the most of their time playing football in the sunshine. In the end it was St. Patrick's PS, Pennyburn, who claimed the overall winners prize as they overcame Sacred Heart on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw in the final.
In the Shield final Rosemount PS emerged victorious over St. John's PS in the final. This game also ended 1-1 with Rosemount winning 2-1 on spot kicks.
The Wilson Manning Trophy was won by Ebrington PS as they overcame Holy Family, again on penalties after another tense and exciting game.
Very appropriately, it was Steelstown PS who claimed the Eunan O'Donnell Cup with a 2-1 victory over St. Columba's in the final. Everyone involved with the Association was delighted to see Eunan in attendance at the tournament and no doubt he was pleased to be able to present his trophy to the children from his old school.
The Association would like to thank the staff at Foyle College for hosting the tournament. Thanks also to the staff of Ebrington PS and Maiden City Soccer for helping set up the pitches. Most importantly the Association thanks all our fantastic footballers who made it such an enjoyable day for everyone involved.
