Derry City to meet Inishowen League officials to discuss Maginn Park move

Derry City will meet representatives from the Inishowen League later this week to discuss the possibility of playing their final six home games of the 2016 season at Maginn Park in Buncrana. The redevelopment of the Brandywell will begin in July, meaning the club will probably be seeking a temporary home for their final six home league games of the 2016 season. The club are currently speaking to the FAI about the possibility of reversing their final six home games from July to October but it is thought unlikely that the other teams in the league would agree to that move so the Brandywell club are therefore exploring their options. Maginn, Finn Park and the Riverside Stadium in Drumahoe have all been mentioned as possible temporary homes but Inishowen League HQ would represent a good fit for the club given it's strong links with the peninsula and the fact that the venue does not have a tennant club. It is joint owned by the Inishowen League clubs and any decision to open it up to the Candy Stripes would have to be passed by the league. The ground has a capacity of around 2,000 and has what is widely regarded as one of the best playing surfaces in the country but it would still require significant work to bring it up to League of Ireland standard. It successfully hosted an EA Sports League Cup second round tie between Cockhill Celtic and Sligo Rovers in 2011 which attracted an attendance of over 1,500 people.
