Maghera youth club looking for new staff to assist with its exciting new plans
Fairhill Youth Centre in Maghera announces exciting new plans after receiving a funding boost.
The additional funding will allow the youth club to add more staff, put on two more weekly sessions and launch its new programme of events.
A representative said the club gives young people a space they can not only enjoy but contribute to.
“Fairhill Youth Centre prides itself in providing a warm, safe, and friendly space where young people can come to meet their friends, relax, and partake in a wide range of activities,” they said.
“Young people's participation and youth voice are key aspects of how we operate.”
The centre now plans to operate four nights a week: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
It will cater for both primary school and secondary school age young people of Maghera and surrounding areas.
“A new programme of events is planned from April onwards,” the representative said.
“It will include sport activities, Health and Wellbeing, Environment and Climate projects, Arts and Craft Projects, MultiMedia projects, Young People Participation, a Member’s Committee and trips away.”
“It will also continue to operate its successful Summer Scheme in July and August,” they added.
The club is looking to hire a new Centre Leader who will be responsible for the overall day to day running of the Youth Centre, delivery of key elements of the programme, managing staff and volunteers, appropriate administration, fundraising and the implementation of the various policies.
New assistant leaders are also being sought. They will help plan a programme and work directly with young people to provide a range of engaging activities, providing enjoyment and enhancing their social skills.
Fairhill Youth Club is in a purpose-built youth centre at Three Tirkane Road, Maghera.
Its premises include a Sports Hall, an external hard play area to the rear of the building, a games area with two snooker tables, a social area, fully equipped kitchen, a small computer suite and a TV/games room.
A team of four part-time youth staff and a small number of volunteers deliver the face to face youth activities with the members on a nightly basis.
The Youth Club is deemed a voluntary organisation by the Education Authority and has the status of a registered charity.
Overall management of FHYC is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are appointed at an Annual General Meeting and who the Centre Leader reports to and takes direction from the Committee.
