Derry man remanded on multiple drug supply and driving offences

A man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with driving and drug offences.

Sean Walsh (22) of Faustina Terrace in Derry appeared charged with offences that were said to have occurred on December last year and on dates in May.

Walsh was charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police and other driving offences.

He was also charged with being concerned in the supply of class A drugs, possessing class A drugs with intent to supply and offering to supply class A drugs.

A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail.

The court heard that police attention was drawn to a vehicle and individuals made off.

In the vehicle police found 16 small bags of white powder which was discovered to be class A drugs of 75% purity.

40 grammes of class A drugs were also found.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client had not been avoiding police in the interim and had actually been before the court recently.

He said it was a case that would more than likely go to the Crown Court and could take up to a year to be dealt with.

The solicitor said that some of the charges related to phone messages and asked for bail subject to conditions.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that she was concerned with the quantity of drugs and refused bail.

Walsh will appear again on May 14.
