Donegal Edwardian period residence situated on twenty acres comes onto the market

An  Edwardian period house which was built around 1908 has come onto the market in the Creeslough area. Overlooking the calm waters of Sheephaven Bay, Cúl Fraoich, is situated within private gardens with its own grounds extending to around 20 acres under the backdrop of the iconic Muckish Mountain.

You approach the house through a gated entrance which opens onto a sweeping driveway and leads you down towards the residence. A four-column veranda to the front of the house opens into the entrance hallway which offers access to the main reception rooms. The kitchen opens onto a courtyard.

The house which is located in Masinass, Creeslough comes onto the market priced at €475,000.

The first floor includes the master bedroom which features fitted wardrobes and is ensuite. There are two further double bedrooms in the residence. One of the most charming features of the property is that it comes with a self-contained annex which includes a bedroom suite and an artist's studio which requires some renovation and modernisation. It is understood the annex was built by the artist Richard Haworth.

The house was originally built as a summer house for one of the family members of Masinass House. Staying true to its heritage for over a century the house is a private home for families to enjoy it and its surroundings.

The house was sold to the artist Richard Haworth and his wife who was a potter around the 1960's. The current owner's family visited The Gallery, in Dunfanaghy, in the year 1977 and admired one of Haworth's works. They were informed the piece had already been sold but it was suggested to them that they could visit him at his home Creeslough to see more of his work. They went to the artist's home and bought one of his oils. They admired his Edwardian home and Haworth told them the house was for also sale so they decided to buy both the painting and the house that day. The house is steeped in history and each room tells its own story. The outside of the home is picturesque and attracts all kinds of wildlife.

The gardens and grounds are a key feature of the property providing complete privacy in a mature woodland setting. The house is surrounded by native rowan, beech, holly trees, a fig tree, clematis, rhododendron and hydrangea shrubs. There is a small orchard with mature apple, conference pear, damson, plum, greengage trees and pine. The property previously had a small jetty that could take a small sailboat at high tide.

The property is protected by the Sheephaven Special Area of Conservation.

Viewing is by strict appointment only. Offers may be submitted to the joint selling agents: Henry Kee & Son Auctioneers, Main Street, Ballybofey and Savills, 33 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2.
