Search helicopter and lifeboats respond to overturned catamaran

A helicopter and lifeboats have been dispatched to a search operation after a boat overturned off Larne.

HM Coastguard received a report of an overturned catamaran approximately 12 miles from Larne at around 4.20pm on Monday.

It dispatched a helicopter from Prestwick, Scotland.

RNLI lifeboats from Red Bay and Larne were also tasked with responding and were at the scene on Monday evening.

Both P&O Ferries vessels on the Larne-Cairnryan route assisted with a search and rescue operation.

They were later released by the Belfast Coastguard to return to their respective ports.

The operation remained ongoing late on Monday evening.
