The Derry flag is flying at Parliament Square at Westminster in London. The flag - red and white with green oak leaf/black musical note – was one of only 80 chosen to represent the historic counties and constituencies of Britain in the 2015 Flag Project marking the 750th anniversary of the Simon de Montfort’s Parliament. Held from 20 January 1265 to mid-March in 1265, it paved the way for the House of Commons we know today. The flag’s designers - pupils at St Anne’s Primary School in Derry – have been congratulated by the city’s current MP, Mark Durkan of the SDLP. Mr Durkan tweeted: “This is a really great design by the pupils from St Anne’s Primary School. “I am delighted for the children and staff who took part in this project – and who should be rightly proud of themselves today.”
