There has been a warm welcome for plans for a new play park in the Ballyarnett area of Derry. Planning permission has been granted for the new facility in the large Ballyarnett Country Park. The plans include the provision of a play area, path, lighting of paths, and a small hub building. SDLP councillor Angela Dobbins said it was great news for the area. She said: “The play area will consist of “large scale timber play equipment” enclosed within a 2.4m high mesh fence. There will be different zones within the park for toddlers, children and older children. “This play area is widely welcomed as there are very few play area within the vicinity. “As well as the play park there are plans to incorporate a hub building which will have a meeting area, a kitchen and toilet facilities. The plans also include an upgrade of the car parking facility. “These plans are long overdue and is only one of the many major projects earmarked for this country park area as it accommodates the local hurling club, horse paddocks and various local wildlife.”
