Mark H Durkan welcomes reform of blood contamination payments

An announcement from the Health Minister Michelle O’Neill that she intends to reform financial assistance for people who were affected by blood contamination, has been welcomed by the SDLP health spokesperson, Mark H Durkan. He said: “People’s lives have been irrevocably changed by blood contamination and it is only right that they are given all the support and assistance they need.Indeed, I have written to the Health Minister on the issue three times since July without reply. “The Health Minister has done well to keep pace with the NHS in England on this issue when so many other areas within our Health Service still lag behind their counterparts in Ireland and Britain. “She has shown a welcome awareness of the need to ensure these payments rise over the coming years to keep up with the rising costs of living and the expense of certain treatments.”
