Derry Court
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court for the second time in two days following a breach of bail conditions two hours after being released.
Cavan White (34) of Rossnagalliagh in Derry was on bail for charges that included voyeurism. He had appeared in court on December 1 and granted bail with conditions including that he abstain from alcohol and not have a mobile phone.
Around two hours after he was released, police were called to a possible drug deal in a city center bar.
When they arrived, police found White in breach of his alcohol and phone bail conditions and also found him to be in possession of drugs and around £230 more than he had when he left custody.
Police objected to bail as he has 136 previous convictions and 38 breaches of bail and they say they have 'zero confidence' that he will abide by any bail conditions, calling it 'extremely likely, if not guaranteed' that he will reoffend.
Defence barrister Grainne McAnaney said that White had 'taken full ownership' to the possession of the drugs but added that he has 'made efforts to seek treatment' for his drug addiction.
District Judge Conor Heaney said that White was 'unlikely or incapable' of abiding by any bail conditions set by the court and refused the application.
He will appear again on December 11.
