Local author Gerry Robinson has released a tribute to Limavady’s community giving a fascinating glimpse into the recent past of the town in his latest publication ‘Roe Valley, Our People, Our Places’.

The launch of the photographic heritage book will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, December 3, at 7.15pm in Limavady United Football Club.

Released just in time for the Christmas season, this latest addition to his comprehensive collection of historical and sporting publications is an ideal gift for anyone with a passion for local history and storytelling.

As with the majority of Gerry’s previous works, all proceeds from the sale of ‘Roe Valley, Our People, Our Places’ will be donated to Foyle Hospice.

His longstanding commitment to supporting the Limavady community and surrounding area has seen his publications raise vital funds for local charities and individuals.

Speaking about the new book, Gerry shared insights into its celebration of the people, events, and everyday life that have shaped Limavady’s past:

My book takes us on a journey through Limavady’s rich and diverse history.

When the Agricultural Hall hosted some of the biggest stars in popular music, our former train station, Minearny Tower, Daintyfit photos, including the recent reunion – these are all contained in ‘Roe Valley, Our People, Our Places’.

The book also includes an Owen’s Bar Christmas poem, successful people from the Roe Valley, charity events, a look at Limavady Big Band, successful sports teams like the Titans Kickboxing team, as well as tributes and poetry.

The list is endless with something for everyone!

The launch will take place in Limavady Football Club on Wednesday 3rd December at 7.15pm.

The books will be on sale at the Limavady Football Club, Café Steinbeck, Menarys, Hunters and other outlets, with all proceeds to local charities.”

Gerry was eager to pay tribute to Limavady United chairman Geoff Ferris, who is organising the launch on Wednesday, December 3 and is also featured in the book.

Gerry is currently involved in several other projects, including composing a poem to commemorate Limavady United’s long and distinguished history dating back to 1880.

He is also preparing a special publication for Canning’s Spar in Magilligan, a much-loved local business celebrating over 50 years.

In addition, Gerry’s bespoke Roe Valley Christmas cards will be available to purchase from Menarys for the festive season.

Roe Valley, Our People, Our Places’ will be on sale following the launch, and can be purchased for £15 from Limavady Football Club, Menarys, Hunters, and Café Steinbeck.
