Daisyfield Sports Hub was officially opened this week
The Daisyfield Sports Hub was officially opened today by the Deputy Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Ald Niree McMorris, marking the completion of a major regeneration project delivered with significant support from the UK Government.
The Daisyfield Sports Hub project received £4.2 million in funding support from Levelling Up Fund, transforming a key community asset into a modern, state-of-the-art facility designed to nurture local talent and promote health and well-being across the community.
The new hub facilities are comprehensive, providing a first-class home for local sporting life. Key features include a fully upgraded Grass Pitch, a floodlit 4G Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), a new Brandywell Sports Centre with a dedicated Changing Pavilion.
The facility will serve as the permanent home for several vital local clubs, including Oak Leaf Boxing Club, Over the Hill Snooker Club, and Ballymoor Football Club, while also providing extensive sport and physical activity opportunities to a wide range of sporting and community organisations throughout the region.
Ald. McMorris, welcoming the opening and the investment said: “I am absolutely thrilled to officially open the Daisyfield Sports Hub. This magnificent £4.2 million investment, secured through the Levelling Up Fund, represents far more than just bricks and mortar: it’s an investment in our people, our health, and our community’s future.
“For the residents, and our fantastic anchor clubs—Oak Leaf Boxing, Over the Hill Snooker, and Ballymoor FC—this facility provides a long-awaited, first-class space to nurture local talent and promote physical activity for everyone, from young children to our senior members. This is the definition of Levelling Up in action, and I am proud to see this dream become a reality for the community.”
The opening ceremony included a ribbon-cutting, tours of the new centre, and demonstrations from the resident boxing and football clubs.
