Derry man fined for criminal damage to bannisters

A man who damaged bannisters in a communal area of his living accommodation has been fined at Derry Magistrate's Court

Neil Joseph McFeely (40) of Lawrence Hill in Derry admitted a charge of criminal damage that occurred on October 31 last year.

The court heard that police received a report of bannisters damaged in the communal area.

The defendant accepted that he had caused the damage and offered to pay.

A prosecutor said that the damage was estimated to be some £250.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said her client had been in custody for some time and had always indicated his willingness to pay for the damage.

Deputy District Judge Chris Holmes said that McFeely had 'a considerable record for this type of offending'.

He fined him £500 and ordered him to pay £250 in compensation.
