The penultimate day at school on Friday last saw the launch of a new Motto at Steelstown Primary School to a fanfare of noise and celebrations in the school assembly hall – ‘Learning Today . . . . .Leading Today!’

The Fun Day of Celebration started with a special assembly led by the Student Council, Class Representatives and the school’s fabulous P1 Choir.

Pupils’ representatives then spoke about what the new motto meant for them and their classmates as well as how they plan to live it out.

Principal, Ms. Catherine Doorish, when addressing those in attendance expressed ‘What a fantastic day this is! Today, we come together to celebrate something very special — the launch of our brand-new school motto ‘Learning Today, Leading Today.’

She continued: ‘Now, you might be wondering - what does that mean? Well, it means that every single day, right here in our school, you are not just learning facts and figures — you are learning how to be leaders. Leaders in kindness, leaders in curiosity, leaders in friendship, and leaders in your own lives - today and tomorrow.

‘We believe in you. We believe that every child in this school has the right to reach their full potential. And we believe that you can be the very best version of yourself. Not someday. Today.

‘Whether you're helping a friend, asking a brilliant question, trying your best in class, or showing courage in the playground — you are leading. You are showing the world what young leaders look like.

‘And let me tell you something else - we are so proud of you. Proud of our pupils, proud of our staff, proud of our families, and proud of our amazing community. This school is a place where everyone belongs, where everyone matters, and where everyone shines.

‘So let’s say it together — nice and loud so the whole world can hear – ‘Learning Today……Leading Today!’ Let’s keep learning, keep leading, and always remember to be the best you can be!’

Ms. Doorish concluded by thanking all who played a part in making the day so special and hoped everyone enjoyed the Inflatables, games, sports and fun (not forgetting ‘Soak The Teacher’ and especially soaking Mr. McLaughlin). She also thanked Collette for the lovely lunch and the special treat of a Celebration Cupcake for all pupils and staff
