Donegal woman to go on trial next month charged with defrauding public revenue of more than one million pounds

The case of Wendy McBean (61) of Railway Park, St Johnston in County Donegal was mentioned at Derry Crown Court today. She faces a total of 24 charges including nine of defrauding the public revenue by false representation in connection with donations towards the Foyle Youth and Community Workshop. She also faces nine charges of transferring criminal property and six charges of forgery in relation to the same offences

A woman is scheduled to go on trial next month charged with cheating the public revenue by false representation of more than one million pounds.

The case of Wendy McBean (61) of Railway Park, St Johnston in County Donegal was mentioned at Derry Crown Court today.

She faces a total of 24 charges including nine of defrauding the public revenue by false representation in connection with donations towards the Foyle Youth and Community Workshop.

She also faces nine charges of transferring criminal property and six charges of forgery in relation to the same offences.

All of the charges were said to have occurred on dates between October 27, 2017 and December 31, 2018.

At today's sitting the court was told that there had been difficulties consulting with the defendant. 

Defence counsel Seamus McNeill KC said that he hoped to have a defence statement by next week after talking to the defendant. 

Judge Neil Rafferty KC said that the trial was scheduled for May 18 and that the consultation had to take place with some urgency. 

McBean is currently on bail.
