Derry students shortlisted for prestigious Student Television Awards

Students from Ulster University in Magee have been announced as finalists for The Royal Television Society Northern Ireland's (RTS NI) Student Television Awards 2025.

The RTS NI is celebrating 12 years of encouraging and nurturing student talent in the region this year. The awards ceremony will be hosted by Producer and Presenter Caoimhe Ní Chathail at the Black Box in Belfast on Wednesday, 2 April at 6.30pm. 

UTV’s North West Reporter Jordan Moore will also deliver the Joe McKinney memorial keynote speech at the ceremony. 

Nominated in the Drama Category for their production 'STATIC', is TJ Harvey Kelly, Nathan Toland, Boróka Hegyi, Alex Monaghan, Michael Rooney and Aoife Doherty from Ulster University, Magee.

Students Daenel Carillo, Emma Lown and Dylan Reilly will also represent the University in the Entertainment and Comedy Drama Category with 'Hubert.'

Also from the University in Magee, Christopher McSherry is nominated in the Craft Category for 'U of A'. 

The winners of the awards will go forward to the national RTS Student Media Awards in London in June later this year.

Commenting on the announcement of this year's shortlist, Sarah McCaffrey, Chair of the RTS NI, said: "With new filmmaking techniques and opportunities, the RTS NI believes that these Awards provide a fantastic way to celebrate and recognise the outstanding skills, ambition and creativity of those studying at Northern Ireland’s third level colleges and universities.

"So many of the young people who took part in these Awards over the past 12 years are now busy enjoying fulfilling careers in the vibrant creative industries sector in Northern Ireland and further afield. It has been a privilege to be part of their journey and we look forward to helping many more students find their future roles in the years to come."
