A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with non-fatal strangulation of his mother.

Shea McGeehan (19) of Glenabbey Mews in Derry was charged with strangling his mother, as well as making threats to kill and assaulting her, on September 25.

Police objected to bail as they believe he has a high likelihood of reoffending, telling the court that his violent behavior towards his mother has escalated, with her calling the police on him seven times since January last year.

Defense solicitor Seamus Quigley said that McGeehan had made a counter allegations against his mother, claiming that she had left him with a bloody nose.
