Derry Magistrate's Court
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with assault, criminal damage and making threats to kill his uncle and his uncle's dog.
David Baranowski (33) of Broighter Road in Derry was arrested after police were called by his uncle following an alleged altercation after Baranowski was said to have complained that his uncle's dogs were too loud.
Baranowski was then said to have threatened to kick and shoot the dogs, allegedly claiming that he had a pipe bomb.
Police objected to bail as Baranowski has 81 previous convictions, including ten for criminal damage and a number of assaults.
He also had seven suspended sentences and fourteen previous breaches of bail.
An officer said police believed there was no chance the defendant would abide by any bail conditions.
Defense solicitor Seamus Quigley said that the incident began over a noise complaint about his uncle's dogs and subsequently turned nasty, adding that Baranowski's uncle had given a body worn account to police and made a statement.
District Judge Barney McElhom granted bail, telling Baranowski that he was giving him 'one chance' but that he 'fully expected' that he wouldn't take it.
He will appear again on October 10.
