Derry Court
A local man who in 2021 was jailed for three years after his conviction for multiple attempted burglaries and burglaries, has pleaded guilty at Derry Crown Court to another attempted burglary charge.
Jordan Paul Leighton (24) from Beech Hill View in the Waterside area of Derry who is currently on remand in Maghaberry Prison, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary with intent to steal at a property at Springtown Road last October 3.
He also pleaded guilty at his arraignment to possessing on the same date a black handled knife at Inch View and he admitted a further charge of possessing a quantity of the Class C drug diazepam.
A charge of possessing a surgical glove for use in a burglary or theft on the same date, which Leighton denied, is to be left on the books not to be proceeded with without leave of the court.
Defence barrister Sean Doherty told Judge Neil Rafferty KC that Leighton has been in custody since his arrest last October.
Judge Rafferty told Leighton he would sentence him on July 4 and added "a custodial sentence in this case is absolutely inevitable".
