The Derry Soroptimist club recently celebrated its eightieth anniversary with a lunch in the White Horse Hotel, attended by representatives of Northern Ireland sister clubs.
Guests were welcomed to the city by Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Councillor Patricia Logue and speaker Odhran Dunne, of Visit Derry, told guests about tourist developments in the city and surrounding area.
Founded on 24th March 1944, the local club is the second oldest in Northern Ireland and is twinned with Dublin.
A spokesperson for the club said: "We campaign around issues affecting women and girls, such as violence against women; foster achievement through our Youth Award public speaking competition for girls and our awards; raise funds for good causes, and support other organisations, most recently the Clarendon Women’s Shelter.
