Disqualification for Derry man who drove under the influence of drugs

Man (45) returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on series of child sex charges

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with driving while under the influence of drugs.

Caolan McLaughlin (28) of Marian Hall in Derry was charged with the offences that occurred on September 6 2022 after police observed a car driving while heavily damaged.

Upon stopping, police saw a man get out and noticed a strong smell of cannabis.

While in police custody, McLaughlin was tested and his blood showed the presence of different drugs including cocaine.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott told the court that McLaughlin was in the grips of drug addiction at the time of his arrest but has since completed rehab.

He received a 15 month disqualification and a fine of £250.
