Man admits having sex on Derry's Walls fined £500

A man who was caught having sexual intercourse on Derry's Walls was also found to have a quantity of drugs on him the local Magistrate's Court heard today.

Jonathan James Elliott (28) with an address at Ravensdale Street in Belfast admitted a charge of indecent behaviour in a public place namely the Walls on February 1 this year.

When police investigated they came upon the defendant and a female and also noticed a strong smell of cannabis. 

A subsequent search uncovered cannabis, Pregablin and Benzodine. 

At interview the defendant made full admissions to the sexual intercourse charge. 

Defence solicitor Derwin Harvey said that the Walls had seen some historic events over the years but did not think this would rank as one of them. 

He said that Elliott had believed he was in 'a discreet place' on the Walls and regretted his actions. 

The solicitor said that to add to 'his humiliation and shame' someone had videoed it and that footage had gone viral. 

Elliott was fined a total of £500.
