Derry Magistrate's Court

A man has appeared in Derry Magistrates Court charged with a theft from July 2022.

John Michael Cooke, 29, of Cornshell Fields, appeared charged with stealing a box of LED strip lights from Home Bargins in July of last year.
The court heard that Cooke entered the shop on July 8 and put the box of lights, valued at £19.99 in his jacket before walking out, making no effort to pay for the item.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told that Cooke had no previous similar offences and accepted that it was 'stupidity' on his part.
District Judge Oonagh Mullan imposed a conditional discharge and compensation order.
