A solicitor has apologised for what he described as a 'Linekeresque' moment from his client who called PSNI officers 'Nazis'.

Terence Cassidy (32) of Letterkenny Road in Derry admitted being disorderly in Waterloo Street in the city on September 25 last.

The court heard that police were dealing with incidents in Waterloo Street and there were around 100 people present.

During an altercation with doormen the defendant became involved with police and in the course of that he called them Nazis.

He was removed from the area.

Defence solicitor Kevin Casey said he had been asked to apologise for the incident.

He said Cassidy had become involved in an incident that did not involve him.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that there had not been any violence and fined Cassidy £250.
