Communities and groups across Causeway Coast and Glens celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge

A one-day Irish language course (Dianchúrsa Gaeilge), was held as part of the Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Language Week) celebrations.

Communities across the Causeway Coast and Glens are coming together during March to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge | Irish Language Week, a vibrant international festival of Irish language and culture.
 
Running from March 1 through to St Patrick’s Day, March 17, Seachtain na Gaeilge is marked by celebrations around the world – and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area is no exception.
 
Across the Borough, local organisations, arts centres, community groups and Gaelic clubs are hosting a wide range of events that invite everyone to take part - whether they are fluent Irish speakers, learners, or simply curious about the language and culture.
 
This year’s programme includes ceilis, live traditional music, film screenings, storytelling events, and family-friendly town centre celebrations, offering something for all ages.
 
Several events have already kicked off the celebrations. These included a one-day Irish language course in Cushendall on 28th February, a lively ceili for Ballycastle Primary School pupils, and an evening of storytelling and music at Limavady Hen’s Shed on 9th March.
 
But there is still plenty more to come, with exciting opportunities for people across the Borough to get involved and celebrate the richness of Irish language and culture through the many different events.
 
The following events are supported through Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Good Relations Programme:
 
Thursday 12th March
Film Screening – “Listen to the Land Speak”
Roe Valley Arts Centre, Limavady – 7pm
Tickets: £5
Watch this powerful tribute to writer and broadcaster Manchán Magan exploring Ireland’s landscape and language.

Saturday 14th March
Lá Fhéile Pádraig – Ceol, Craic & Culture
Drumceatt Square, Limavady – 12pm–4pm
Enjoy a lively afternoon in the town centre with music, dancing, film screenings and cultural activities celebrating Irish heritage.

Saturday 14th March
Rasharkin Comhaltas Irish Cultural Evening
St Olcan’s Parish Centre – 8pm
Join Rasharkin Comhaltas and St Mary’s GAC for an evening of music, language, dance and refreshments celebrating Irish traditions.

Saturday 14th March
Ceol Le Chéile / Music Together – Dunloy
St Joseph’s Hall, Dunloy – 6:30pm–8:30pm
Hosted by Dunloy Comhaltas, this intergenerational gathering features live traditional music, singers, arts activities and refreshments — a relaxed and welcoming evening for all ages.

Tuesday 17th March – St Patrick’s Day
Ceili at The Club - Coffee & Music Morning
Kilrea GAC - 10am-2pm
A morning to celebrate St Patrick’s Day with Irish dancing, Ceili dancing, face painting, scones and take your instrument along to join in the session!
 
Tuesday 17th March – St Patrick’s Day
Portstewart Promenade Celebration
Promenade & Crescent, Portstewart – 1pm–4pm
Celebrate St Patrick’s Day with live Irish dancing from Innova Irish Dance Company, music from the Brí Trad group, and family activities including face painting.
 
Thursday 19th March
Film & Live Music – “Focla ar Chanbhás” (Words on Canvas)
Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart – 7:15pm
Enjoy this Irish language documentary followed by a Q&A with director Paddy Hayes and live music from David Keenan.
Tickets: £8 (£6 concession). Booking via the Flowerfield Arts Centre website
 
From music and storytelling to films and family celebrations, Seachtain na Gaeilge offers a chance for everyone to experience the language and culture in a welcoming and enjoyable way.
 
Whether you are learning your first words in Irish, or simply want to enjoy the atmosphere, there are plenty of opportunities across the Causeway Coast and Glens to join the celebration.
