Derry Magistrate's Court

A solicitor told Derry Magistrate's Court today that his client was proof that cannabis 'gives you the munchies' after he was caught with drugs after going to a Chinese restaurant.

Martin Eugene Sheridan (29) of Clon Elagh in Derry admitted a charge of possessing cannabis on August 15, 2022.

The court heard that police were at a Chinese restaurant for food and noticed a strong smell of cannabis from Sheridan and another man.

Police stopped the accused outside and he was seen to be 'fidgeting' with an item.

He was asked to hand it over and he gave police a small package of cannabis.

He told police it was for personal use.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client had the 'munchies' after taking cannabis.

He said Sheridan had not given the police any trouble.

Sheridan was fined £150.
