Danske Bank Kirk Cup semi-final
Gaelcholáiste Dhoire 5-15 St Colman’s Newry 1-5
Gaelcholáiste Dhoire will meet St Mary’s Magherafelt in the Danske Bank Kirk Cup final after this comfortable semi-final win over St Colman’s Newry in Coláiste Feirste on Monday. It will be the first ever final between two schools from county Derry.
Gaelcholáiste built up a comfortable interval lead with two goals from Ger Ó Diolúin. He also contributed a couple of points as did Finbarr Ó Muirí, Déaglán Mac Con Midhe and Peadar Pio Ó Duibhne.
In the second half Jude Ó Conaire and Ó Duibhne (two) also hit the net for a comfortable victory.
Gaelcholáiste were in control from start to finish as they physically dominated a young St Colman's team. With Cathal Ó Mianáin and Déaglán Ó Ceallaigh directing operations in defence, the forwards got a regular supply of the sliotar and they combined well to produce an emphatic win that brings them to the final for the first time.
The Newry team's best performances came in defence – from Ailil Morris in goals, Óisín Gambold, Danny Doyle and Fionn Elshaw with Oran McAnarney and Ryan Walsh the pick of the front men.
St Mary's Magherafelt have been in the decider from a fortnight earlier when Lavey pair James Sargeant and Patrick Birt powered them to a 2-20 to 4-6 win over St Patrick's Keady.
